ICL Introduces ProSelect Greenwave to the European Turf Market
New tetraploid sheep’s fescue cultivar expands the ProSelect range for lower-input turf and landscape applications.

ICL has introduced ProSelect Greenwave, a tetraploid sheep’s fescue (Festuca ovina), to the European market following its EU registration.
Previously known as Blue Hornet by ICL partner breeder Mountain View Seeds in the US, Greenwave joins the ProSelect grass seed range as a new option for golf, landscape and other turf areas where lower-input management is a priority.

Tetraploid sheep’s fescue with strong establishment
Greenwave is a tetraploid sheep’s fescue, with four sets of chromosomes rather than the two found in diploid cultivars. Its tetraploid genetics support seedling vigour during establishment, while its broad genetic base helps it adapt to different climatic conditions.
Greenwave can be used across a range of turf applications, including golf course roughs, landscaping and other areas where persistent grass cover is required with relatively low maintenance inputs.

Suited to lower-input turf and landscape areas
Greenwave provides a fine-leaved, durable ground cover suited to areas where reducing maintenance inputs is an important consideration.
Its characteristics make it particularly relevant for golf course roughs, natural-looking landscape areas and other extensive turf where long-term cover and lower maintenance requirements are priorities.
Simon Taylor, ICL Turf Seeds Product & Business Development Manager, said:
“Greenwave gives turf managers another option where establishment, adaptability and lower-input management are important. Its tetraploid genetics distinguish it from conventional sheep’s fescues and make it a useful addition to the ProSelect range.”
