YPH China, a joint venture of ICL and YHT, is a major phosphate mining and processing operation located in Yunnan Province, China. Established in partnership with Yunnan Phosphate Chemicals Group, the site combines extensive natural phosphate reserves with large-scale industrial processing, creating a fully integrated production platform serving agriculture and industry.
At the core of the operation is the Haikou phosphate mine, supported by beneficiation plants (which refine and concentrate the raw ore) and downstream manufacturing facilities. Phosphate rock extracted from the mine is processed into phosphoric acid and fertilizers, supplying both domestic and regional markets. Continuous investment over recent decades has ensured that the site is efficient, reliable, and aligned with modern production standards.

YPH plays a key role in supplying phosphate-based products for agricultural use, helping to support crop nutrition and productivity. In addition, the site produces food-grade and technical phosphates for industrial applications, expanding its contribution beyond agriculture into a broader range of value chains.
In recent years, YPH has also become an important supplier of phosphate materials for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, linking its operations to the fast-growing energy storage sector. Alongside this, ongoing investments in innovation, sustainability, and environmental management continue to strengthen the site’s long-term role within ICL’s global network.

YPH operates the Haikou open-pit phosphate mine using conventional drilling and blasting methods. The layered sedimentary deposit enables efficient extraction, while progressive land reclamation is integrated into operations. This ensures long-term resource availability while maintaining a strong focus on environmental responsibility and sustainable land use.

Phosphate rock is upgraded through flotation and scrubbing processes to produce high-quality material for downstream use. These beneficiation steps are essential to ensure consistent nutrient content and performance in fertilizer production, supporting reliable supply for agricultural markets.

YPH produces a range of phosphate-based fertilizers that support crop nutrition and improve nutrient use efficiency. These products are designed to deliver essential phosphorus in forms that are readily available to plants, helping farmers achieve consistent yields and more efficient use of inputs.

The YPH Innovation Center drives the development of advanced agricultural solutions and improved fertilizer technologies. By bringing together research, technical expertise, and local market knowledge, the facility supports the creation of products that enhance productivity while addressing sustainability and environmental challenges.

Within YPH’s Circular Economy program, several applications for phosphogypsum have been developed, including a major project to restore open‑pit mines with local authorities. YPH is rehabilitating the legacy pits at Shuangshao and Taoshu using phosphogypsum from its treated production lines and gypsum pond, transported by pipeline. The work includes full encapsulation, protection and monitoring systems, and landscape restoration, all in line with the General Industrial Solid Waste Storage and Landfill Pollution Control Standards.

Sustainability is embedded across all operations at YPH, including high mine reclamation rates and efficient resource management. The site has achieved top-level “Green Mine” certification in China, reflecting its commitment to minimizing environmental impact while maintaining high production standards.
