ICL R&D Bio Hub, Ness Ziona, Israel

Biological Innovation for Sustainable Agriculture

Located in Ness Ziona, Israel, the ICL R&D Bio Hub IL is the company’s first dedicated center for the research and development of biological solutions for agriculture. Established in 2024, the center brings together a multidisciplinary team of 20 specialists focused on accelerating the development of next generation biostimulants and microbial technologies.

Driving Innovation in Agricultural Biologicals

The Bio Hub leads ICL’s global efforts in microbial and metabolite based biostimulants, with research targeting abiotic stress tolerance, nutrient use efficiency, water use efficiency, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The center also develops plant extract based solutions, novel delivery systems, and a proprietary microbial AI platform designed to rapidly identify crop specific biological candidates.

Building Advance Microbial Resources

A key strength of the center is its extensive library of more than 150,000 bacterial strains, enabling targeted discovery and faster time to market for new Ag Biologicals. Researchers also work to characterize the mode of action of biostimulants, ensuring scientific robustness and reliable field performance.

Accelerating Innovation Through Global Collaboration

The Bio Hub operates as part of the Global Growing Solutions R&D network, collaborating closely with teams in Heerlen, Brazil, TAMI, Rotem, the US, Fuentes, and Sdom. This integration ensures that biological innovations are effectively combined with ICL’s traditional fertilizer technologies, creating hybrid solutions that deliver measurable agronomic value. Collaboration extends beyond R&D, with strong ties to Agronomy, Marketing/Portfolio, and HERA teams to support global development, validation, and commercialization.

Supporting ICL's Sustainability Goals

Many of the center’s research programs directly support ICL’s sustainability goals by improving nutrient‑use efficiency, enhancing plant resilience, and reducing greenhouse‑gas emissions. By developing biological solutions that help crops perform better under stress, the Bio Hub contributes to more efficient and environmentally responsible farming practices.

Community Involvement

Beyond professional activities, the team actively participates in diverse community initiatives. This commitment reflects the organization's broader mission to make a positive impact and contribute to society and the environment.

Building the Biological Solutions of Tomorrow

With a clear ambition to become a global powerhouse in agricultural biologicals, the Bio Hub IL is positioning ICL at the forefront of sustainable crop nutrition practices. By leveraging advanced microbial tools, AI driven discovery, and a strong global R&D network, the center aims to deliver tailored, region specific biological solutions to farmers worldwide.
