Socorro Encinas, an agronomist from Iberia, is driven by the impact her work has on making agriculture more productive and sustainable. She’s proud that her voice and expertise are respected in a male-dominated field, inspiring other women who stand up for their ideas. While progress toward inclusion is slow, she believes collective effort will continue to move the sector forward.

What do you like most about your job?

I like knowing that my work helps to make the agricultural sector more productive and sustainable.

What professional achievement are you most proud of?

I am most proud of the fact that my opinion as an agricultural engineer is respected and taken into account, especially as a woman working in a mostly male sector.

Which women in the sector inspire you?

There are lots of women who inspire me. Really, it is all those who are capable of defending their ideas and rights without being intimidated.

What progress have you seen in the sector toward inclusion?

Progress is very slow! I believe we will have to continue working in a united way to continue to improve the situation.
