The Spotlight: Alicia Yélamos

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy the direct contact with the farmers and the agricultural technicians whom I learn from every day during my visits to the production farms.

What professional achievement are you most proud of?

When farmers and technicians ask for my professional support. I’m always striving to improve my knowledge through ongoing training so I can recommend the correct fertilization that is as adapted as possible to the needs of the crops.

Which women in the sector inspire you?

I’m inspired by all my colleagues who choose to work as agricultural technicians visiting farms and working in direct contact with farmers.

What progress have you seen in the sector towards inclusion?

The number of women in the sector has grown since I decided to study Agricultural Engineering. Since then, many more women have decided to do the same. Today 32% of the members of the College of Agricultural Engineers of Almería are women, a number that has grown especially in the last 10 years.
