We recently held a Weed Management Workshop at Waimea Nurseries, a day focused on practical solutions and shared knowledge. When we asked Alice Buschl, the Nursery Production Manager, about her objective for the training, her answer was simple and clear: “To have a weedless Nursery.”

The day was a mix of theory and hands-on practice. We started with a classroom presentation before moving out into the nursery for a calibration session. Waimea Nurseries also gave us a look at their newly built tray washer, a piece of equipment Alice says has already made a huge difference in reducing weeds. It was rewarding for her to see that their proactive steps were already yielding results.

The feedback from the group was fantastic. One of the attendees shared their thoughts, saying, “The great thing was that Nicola put it to us in a language we could understand, and then having a crack at it was really great.”

This workshop was a great example of how combining practical knowledge with hands-on experience can help nurseries move closer to their goal of becoming weed-free.
