The Spotlight: Maite Caballero
Maite Caballero, Agriculture Area Sales Manager for the South of Spain
What do you like most about your job?
I like the contact I have with clients. My job allows me to meet with many people who share their experiences with me, which is a continuous learning process.
What professional achievement are you most proud of?
The confidence I’ve gained from my experiences means I can pass on my knowledge and advice and support it with more arguments and experiences, making it even more valued. I’m fortunate to be able to see the results of the changes that are being introduced and the farmer’s satisfaction with a good harvest. That feels like my greatest achievement.
Which women in the sector inspire you?
Many, from the strawberry pickers in Huelva who leave their countries for months to pick strawberries with care, to the technical directors who are responsible for planning the development of the crop so that it reaches the consumer in the best.
What progress have you seen in the sector towards inclusion?
I’ve seen the sector change radically in recent years. The fertilizer industry has gone from an almost exclusively male sector to one where you can now find women in many different roles. On the other hand, in agriculture, where there has not yet been such a significant change, we need more progress and for women to be more present, not only in the workforce but in decision-making positions.
