Small or Large, Best Practice Pays Off: Weed Management Training for Every Nursery
When Kerry de Vries, who runs a small nursery in south-west Sydney, reached out to Robert Megier for advice on applying OH2, Robert suggested to conduct an on-site training session on weed management.
Kerry’s nursery, although small—proves that efficient practices are just as important as they are for larger nurseries. Using the “Effective Weed Management in Nurseries” book, Robert guided the staff through the important topics of:
- Sanitation
- Efficient hand weeding
- Chemical use
Hands-On Training for Best Practice
The session also included a crucial practical demonstration where staff were trained on Best Practice Application: what PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to wear, how to correctly calibrate spreading equipment, and the proper techniques to achieve the best results.
The staff’s enthusiasm and engagement were clear. They didn’t stop at weed management; their curiosity led them to ask for information and demonstrations on another fundamental task: how best to dibble Osmocote when potting.
The training was a huge success, leaving Kerry de Vries motivated and ready to implement changes.
“Thank you for the amazing talk today. It’s got my staff and I excited to see the improvements we can make here.” Kerry de Vries, Nursery Owner
This successful site visit highlights the power of hands-on training. By focusing on the fundamentals, Kerry de Vries’s team is now better equipped not just to manage weeds safely and efficiently, but to embrace best practices across key nursery operations.
