Osmocote 5 Stories: Oleanders in Italy
Growers from all over the world were asked to test the impact of Osmocote 5; the next generation of controlled-release fertilizers. In a series of stories, we like to share the outcome of the very first trials.
Oleander nursery Vivai del Mela is located in Sicily, Italy. The nursery includes 20 hectares dedicated to the production of Nerium Oleander in pot. Franco Maimone, co-owner and production manager: “Our production starts from the roots (3,000,000 rooted scion for season), up to the marketing of the plant. Uniformity and quality are essential and this is achieved thanks to high level technologies and fertilization.”
“With a lower fertilizer input we still safely obtained solid, healthy and colorful plants with optimal root development.”
Osmocote 5: Grower’s experiences
Franco was enthusiastic to start a trial with the new Osmocote 5 and used the 12-14 months longevity. Franco: “This is a chance for us to apply less fertilizers and still maintain the same high quality plants. We could eliminate any additional fertigation by slightly increasing the Osmocote 5 dosage compared to the dosage usually applied with other Osmocote products. With a lower fertilizer input we still safely obtained solid, healthy and colorful plants with optimal root development.”
