Planting trees for a greener tomorrow

At ICL, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s a commitment. That’s why we’re proud to support The Greener Earth Project, an inspiring initiative driven by a bold mission: to plant one million trees across the globe.

“The Greener Earth Project is more than just planting trees,” says Jorden Summers, ICL’s Finance Business Partner and one of the project’s co-founders. “It’s about empowering communities from the UK to South America, East Africa to Australia, and South-East Asia. In Scotland alone, we’ve already planted more than 22,000 trees.

“But the mission doesn’t stop at the planting. The funds raised also go toward protecting these reforested sites – ensuring long-term tree survival, preserving biodiversity, and providing fair wages to local workers involved in the project.”

Run by a passionate team of UK-based volunteers, The Greener Earth Project keeps overheads low, directing a remarkable 92% of donations in 2023 directly into tree-planting efforts.

“The results speak for themselves,” says Jorden. “By March 2025, over 110,000 trees had already taken root, contributing an estimated 2.39 million kg of CO₂ sequestration per year*.

“We’re very grateful for ICL’s support. This recently helped to fund a special Earth Week celebration at London’s iconic Hard Rock Café. Marking the Project’s 5th anniversary – and thanking our amazing members, business partners and generous donors – the event raised £4,000.

“ICL’s donation is also contributing to vital mangrove planting efforts in Kenya’s coastal areas.  Providing a natural defence against sea surges and saltwater intrusion, the mangrove roots also nurture marine life in fragile coastal ecosystems. The Greener Earth Project shows what can be achieved when businesses, communities, and individuals unite to work towards a more sustainable future.”
