New H2Gro ED improves irrigation efficiency in hot weather

With prolonged hot weather and more frequent heatwaves adding to irrigation pressures and production costs, ICL has launched an improved formulation of its unique wetting agent, H2Gro ED.

Designed to help growers maximise water efficiency and maintain plant quality on and beyond the nursery, H2Gro ED is now easier to use, available in new pack sizes and can be applied at lower temperatures during the colder months.

“Pre-mixed into growing media, H2Gro ED ensures water moves evenly through the pot, eliminating dry patches and keeping moisture available for longer,” says Steve Chapman. “During periods of extreme heat, this helps reduce the risk of plants drying out while making every irrigation cycle more effective.”

Included as standard in all Levington Advance peat-free and peat-reduced growing media, as well as bespoke mixes, H2Gro ED’s unique three-in-one mode of action is particularly valuable in sustainable substrates. As coir and wood-based materials are naturally more hydrophobic than peat, H2Gro ED acts immediately to improve water distribution and retention throughout the growing media.

In addition to being incorporated into growing media, H2Gro ED can be applied as required throughout the growing season, giving growers extra flexibility when irrigation demands increase.

“Applied through the irrigation system, via a stock tank or Dosatron, H2Gro ED improves water retention, helping crops remain hydrated for longer when conditions are most challenging,” says Steve Chapman, ICL Technical Area Sales Manager

“Supplementary applications can be watered on directly, targeting containers that dry out more quickly, such as those along the edges of beds. Applied before dispatch, H2Gro ED also helps maintain plant quality during transport and extends shelf life at retail, particularly during hot weather.”

Reflecting its wider range of applications, H2Gro ED is now available in new 10-litre packs and 200-litre drums, alongside existing 12 x 1-litre packs and 1,000-litre IBCs.
