National Plant Show 2026

The new starter fertiliser, Cal-BOOST®, will take centre stage on ICL’s ‘Fertilisers for the Future’ themed stand at the HTA National Plant Show (Stand 86 in Hall 1 – June 17/18 at NAEC Stoneleigh).

Developed for sustainable growing media mixes, Cal-BOOST (20-5-5+7CaO+2MgO) is a next generation slow-release fertiliser, steadily releasing Nitrogen, Calcium and Magnesium over 2 to 3 months. A mini granule, it is recommended for pot plants, such as calcium hungry Poinsettias, and fast-growing perennials in general.

“In sustainable growing media, as the peat component reduces or is eliminated, less lime – Calcium and Magnesium carbonates – is required to optimise pH,” says ICL Technical Manager, Andrew Wilson. “If left unrectified, plants often experience Calcium and Magnesium deficiencies, which soft water irrigation exacerbates. Meanwhile, wood-based peat alternatives can generate Nitrogen draw down issues.

“Supplying additional controlled release Nitrogen, plus slow release Calcium and Magnesium, Cal-BOOST promotes stronger more resilient plants, while mitigating any N lockup in these new media. Simpler, and more sustainable, Cal-BOOST replaces Osmocote CalMag, which was discontinued due to technical manufacturing challenges.

“ICL has a healthy pipeline of new sustainable fertiliser products, with biodegradable coatings. This includes Osmocote N-Boost, recommended for hungry crops such as evergreens, which is due to be launched next year. Meanwhile, ahead of impending EU legislation, ICL is making steady progress developing innovative biodegradable coatings for its established market-leading Osmocote CRF range.
