Container nursery stock grown in pots
Within the nursery stock category there are a wide range of plants grown, which service the ornamentals market from households to big landscape projects. ICL looks to provide solutions for all plant categories and address challenges which are found, within this interesting crop category, with innovative products and dedicated service.
Liners
Rooted cuttings and plugs are potted into 7-9cm pots or multicell trays.
Quick rooting is important to ensure the young plant establishes well and produces many buds and shots. Healthy plants are more resistant and able to fight off fungal infections.
General nursery stock
A very wide range of garden plants are grown, to match the nutrient needs more closely it is best to group the plants into groups with similar needs . Wide range of pot sizes from 1 Lit up to 10 Litre.
Longer term crops which are often grown outdoors will quickly lose leaf colour and show nutrient deficiencies. Many crops are overwintered, and we need to provide a media with an optimum air : water balance and yet still be manageable for irrigation in the summer. H2Gro wetting agent has proven to greatly improve the water holding and rewetting of growing media. Nutrition is key and many need the fertiliser to perform into the second growing season.
Herbaceous perennials
A wide range of herbaceous plants are grown , generally potted early spring into small pots (9-11cm) for early sales or larger pots (1-3L) for later sales.
Matching the nutrition for a wide range of plants. They grow very quickly in the spring but we need compact growth and flowering.
Ericaceous
Wide range of species grown in both spring and autumn potting cycles, Ericaceous plants have very specific needs due to their slow growing habit and intolerance of lime.
Sensitive to high pH levels leading to iron deficiency, (aim for pH of 4.5 to 5) and also to high levels of fertilizer.
Trees
Within the UK and Ireland there are a wide range of trees grown within nursery stock production in varying species and sizes. From small trees for garden centres in 10-15 litre pots up to Semi Mature Trees in 200 litre up to 1000 litre pots. Trees are potted up bare root trees lifted from the field. Larger specimens may be rootballs put into large pots with a limited volume of new growing media wit hfresh fertiliser.
Maintaining the water and nutrient supply to large trees, and ensuring trace elements, such as iron are constantly available for best foliage colour. High levels of nitrogen can lead to soft growth which can be damaged in high winds.
