On-Demand Webinar: Above and Below – Build the Roots, Feed the Microbes & Crops
Better Roots. Better Results. Getting More from Every Nutrient Applied.
Healthy crops start below the surface. But maximizing nutrient efficiency takes more than fertilizer alone. It requires a thriving soil microbiome, strong root systems, and the right environment for nutrient and water uptake.Explore how non-microbial biostimulants and enhanced nutrient fertilizers work with native soil biology and existing fertility programs to improve nutrient cycling, stimulate plant growth, and support crop resilience.
Through research trials and on-farm examples across corn, potatoes, peanuts, and other crops, discover how BIOZ® solutions help growers get more from their soil and fertilizer investments.

Key Webinar Takeaways: How Non-Microbial Biostimulants Work
Unlike microbial products that introduce living organisms, non-microbial biostimulants stimulate plant processes and support the beneficial microbial communities already present in the soil.
Three key categories offer distinct modes of action:
- Humic Acids: Enhance root growth and increase the soil’s cation exchange capacity, helping hold nutrients and support nutrient availability.
- Seaweed Extracts: Help signal and prime plant growth and stress responses.
- Molasses & Yeast Extracts: Help activate and feed the soil microbiota and increase soil enzymatic activity while providing a metabolic boost that supports greater root growth and nutrient uptake capacity.
- Liquid Biochar Extracts: Stimulate natural plant biochemical pathways to support plant growth.
Together, these approaches focus on what is happening in and around the rhizosphere—supporting stronger roots, nutrient cycling, native soil biology, and more efficient nutrient and water uptake.
The goal is to maximize the interaction between roots, soil biology, and nutrients:
“We’re after getting more out of every nutrient or fertilizer that we apply and improving that soil environment.” – Christi Falen, CCA
Three BIOZ Solutions: Different Modes of Action, One Goal
BIOZ® Jet | Liquid Biochar Extract
A concentrated liquid biochar extract that stimulates natural plant biochemical pathways to support emergence, seedling development, root growth, nutrient and water uptake, and stress tolerance. A strong fit for acidic fertilizer programs, including solutions below pH 3.5, BIOZ Jet is designed for early-season soil applications such as in-furrow, 2×2, side-dress, and fertigation.
BIOZ® Diamond | Molasses & Yeast Extract
A 10-0-1 fertilizer containing molasses and yeast extract that provides microbial food and supports soil enzymatic activity, nutrient cycling, root growth, and fertilizer efficiency. Compatible with low-pH to neutral fertilizer programs at pH 3.5 and above, BIOZ Diamond offers whole-season flexibility, including in-furrow, 2×2, side-dress, fertigation, and foliar applications.
BIOZ® Establish | Seaweed & Humic Acids
Combines seaweed and humic acids to stimulate root growth and nutrient uptake while helping plants better tolerate stress. Designed to pair with pH-neutral starter fertilizer programs, BIOZ Establish fits early- to mid-season applications including in-furrow, 2×2, side-dress, and fertigation. We often pair it with our high-P starter CHALLENGE for extra humic acids with optimal results.
From Soil Biology to Field Results
Research and on-farm observations highlighted how these different modes of action translate into measurable agronomic benefits.
- BIOZ Diamond – Soil Enzyme Activity: Across 39 research locations in Brazil, BIOZ Diamond increased key soil enzymatic activities by 11–16%, supporting nutrient cycling.
- BIOZ Diamond – Corn Yield: A Wisconsin field trial reported yield increases of 6.6 bu/A at 32 fl oz/A and 11.4 bu/A at 64 fl oz/A compared with the grower standard.
- BIOZ Jet – Potato Yield: A Minnesota trial reported a 75 cwt/A yield increase when BIOZ Jet was added to an Agrolution pHLow fertilizer program, compared with pHLow alone.
- BIOZ Jet – Peanut Root Development: North Carolina field observations showed deeper taproots, greater root mass, and more peanuts per sampled plant compared with the grower standard.

Peanuts grown with BIOZ Jet show increased root mass, depper tap root, more fibrous root hair compared to grower standard. (Site A – Wilson NC 2026)
“When you’re able to see visible differences like that in the field, it speaks volumes.” — Grayson Lambert
Putting It Together: Feed the Soil, Build the Roots, Protect Yield
Field observations reinforced the importance of establishing stronger roots early to help crops manage stress later in the season.
The central message is simple: Non-microbial biostimulants complement a sound fertility program rather than replace it.
By selecting solutions based on soil conditions, fertilizer compatibility, crop growth stage, and agronomic goals, growers can support soil biology, improve nutrient efficiency, and strengthen crop resilience.
The importance of pairing nutrition with biostimulants is a recurring theme.
“This emphasizes the importance of pairing the right nutrition and then adding the biostimulant.” — Christi Falen, CCA
