We innovate to bring new products to market that raise the bar to improve the lives of people and the planet. More than 50 years ago, we revolutionized the fertilizer industry with the first controlled release fertilizer. Since then, we have continued to launch innovative new specialty plant nutrition products.



We are expanding our product portfolio of specialty plant nutrition products, including controlled release fertilizers (CRF), water-soluble fertilizers (WSF), liquid fertilizers, slow-release fertilizers (SRF), straights fertilizers (MAP/MKP/PeKacid), biostimulants, and others.

We will reduce our GHG (scope 1 and 2) emissions by 30% by 2030 (using 2018 as the baseline).

Through continued investment, ICL expects to be carbon neutral by 2050.

Sustainable Solutions

ICL’s RD&I is looking to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the guiding principles for further development. As a company, we focus on finding solutions that increase our positive global impact through our existing and new products; for example, our new high-performance eqo.x CRF coating technology which boosts farm sustainability by improving NUE while utilizing a fully biodegradable coating.

Product Carbon Footprints

At ICL, we have been measuring and managing our corporate carbon footprint for the past decade. Our goal is to be Carbon Neutral by 2050, and part of this is our aggressive target of reducing our carbon footprint by over 30% within the next decade. To enable our customers make their own sustainable decisions, we are engaged in publishing the carbon footprint of each of our main products. Due to the unique nature of ICL’s products and production processes, some of ICL’s products have a much lower carbon footprint than competing products.

Innovative Research

Increasing food abundance and quality is a critical need, as is increasing efficiency in the agriculture, truf and horticulture sectors. As a major producer of fertilizers, ICL develops and disseminates products and knowledge regarding plant nutrition and optimum fertilizer application methods to farmers and horticulturist worldwide. Arming our customers with this knowledge better equips them to meet the challenges of the world’s growing population, decreasing arable land, and the urgent need for improved environmental stewardship.

Resilient and Innovative Agriculture

The agricultural community and its supply chain are facing the biggest challenge of our times. The global population, currently in excess of 8 billion people, is expected to pass 9.8 billion by 2050. An additional 2 billion mouths will need feeding with no more farmland than currently under cultivation. Meanwhile, in large part due to climate change, about 12 million hectares of land are becoming degraded each year, with the increasing frequency and intensity of droughts and floods adding to the challenge of maintaining food security for the growing population.

Agricultural Knowledge Outreach

ICL is working with farmers to help them develop the knowledge needed to engage in sustainable agriculture, including optimum plant nutrition and fertilization. This knowledge will enable farmers to use their land more effectively and increase their yields. Growing more food in the fields while using balanced fertilization increases food production and reduces the impact farming has on the environment.

Over 50 years ago, ICL pioneered with Osmocote, the first generation of controlled release fertilizers (CRF). Today, we continuously invest in high quality, sustainable solutions to help growers navigate in a fast-changing industry. ICL's advanced fertilizer technologies are among the most efficient and sustainable solutions on the market. For instance, our CRFs not only prove to create stronger, healthier plants, but they also lower nutrient losses through leaching and volatilization. ICL's innovative products like CRFs, water-soluble fertilizers (WSF), and wetting agents, create perfect plants sustainably in any cultivation situation, now and in the future.

Future-proof Turf Nutrition Technologies

Regulations on fertilization become stricter and stricter, and turf managers are facing huge challenges to maintain high quality turf grass in high demanding environments such as sportstadia or golfcourses. ICL’s newest innovation for future-proof turf management is eqo.s technology; a coating technology for controlled-release fertilizers that is fully biodegradable, breaks down super-fast once all nutrients are released, and leaves no trace behind. This revolutionary technology is the first of its kind and ensures high quality turf grass performance, making it the future-proof, sustainable solution for turf management programs.
