GreenPlanet is a European-bred diploid perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) cultivar developed for sports turf and landscape applications.
It combines rapid establishment, dense growth and good wear tolerance and recovery with a dark-green appearance and strong tolerance to Rust, Red Thread and Leaf Spot.
GreenPlanet also performs well at lower temperatures, making it useful for early- and late-season renovation.

What are the characteristics of GreenPlanet?
GreenPlanet is a diploid perennial ryegrass with a dark-green appearance, rapid establishment and a strong disease profile.
Its combination of dense growth, good wear recovery and lower-temperature establishment makes it particularly useful where both turf quality and reliable establishment are important.
GreenPlanet performance
Testing at Den Haan in 2018 demonstrated balanced performance across turf quality, establishment, disease tolerance and seasonal color.

Rust tolerance was the standout result at 9.0, while both Red Thread and Leaf Spot tolerance scored 8.3. GreenPlanet also recorded 8.2 for average turf quality and 8.0 for establishment speed.

Disease tolerance
Disease tolerance is one of GreenPlanet’s key strengths.
In Den Haan testing, GreenPlanet recorded a Rust tolerance score of 9.0, alongside scores of 8.3 for Red Thread and 8.3 for Leaf Spot.
This broad disease profile supports turf quality and appearance during periods when these diseases are active.
Color and visual quality
GreenPlanet has a dark to very dark green leaf color, giving it a deeper appearance than many traditional European perennial ryegrasses.
Its dense growth and medium leaf texture contribute to a uniform turf appearance.
In Den Haan testing, GreenPlanet recorded scores of 7.8 for winter color and 7.9 for summer color.
Establishment, wear and recovery
GreenPlanet establishes rapidly, recording an establishment speed score of 8.0 in Den Haan testing.
Once established, it produces dense growth with good wear tolerance and recovery, making it suitable for turf exposed to regular use.
Its diploid characteristics also support a dense, high-quality turf surface.
Low-temperature establishment
GreenPlanet can establish effectively when temperatures are below the optimum range for perennial ryegrass germination.
In breeder trials, GreenPlanet and Agreement consistently germinated at low temperatures better than other leading varieties.
This makes GreenPlanet particularly useful for early- and late-season renovation, when establishment conditions are less favorable.
