Recycled phosphorus that works in close association with developing turf roots
Pearl is a recycled phosphorus technology based on struvite recovered from wastewater.
Used in selected Sierrablen Plus fertilizers, Pearl provides phosphorus and magnesium in a form that becomes available in close association with actively growing roots.
It provides turf managers with a recycled source of phosphorus designed particularly for establishment and renovation.
Why choose Pearl?
- Recycled phosphorus – recovers phosphorus from the waste stream, reducing reliance on finite mined phosphate resources.
- Root-driven nutrient release – acidity around actively growing roots helps release phosphorus and magnesium from the struvite granule.
- Continued phosphorus availability – Pearl does not immediately dissolve when it comes into contact with water.
- Designed for developing rootzones – Pearl is particularly suited to establishment and renovation, where granules can be positioned in close association with developing roots.
- Supported by independent research – research at Bangor University demonstrated significantly greater root mass from treatments containing higher proportions of struvite compared with conventional mono-ammonium phosphate (MAP).
Pearl and controlled release fertilizers
Pearl is used in selected Sierrablen Plus controlled release fertilizers for turf establishment and renovation.
These fertilizers combine recycled struvite with other nutrient sources and controlled release fertilizer technologies, allowing phosphorus nutrition to form part of a wider approach to turf establishment.

Proven in sports turf
A one-year Masters-by-Research study at Bangor University investigated the use of recycled struvite as a phosphorus source for sports turf.
Treatments containing higher proportions of struvite produced significantly greater root mass than conventional MAP, while the research also demonstrated the importance of positioning the phosphorus source within the developing rootzone.
