What is A-LIST Approval? A Guide to A-LIST Turfgrass Cultivars

The Alliance for Low Input Sustainable Turf (A-LIST®) is a non-profit organisation that identifies and tests turfgrass cultivars for performance under lower-input conditions, including reduced water, fertilizer and pesticide use.

To achieve A-LIST approval, a cultivar must meet defined performance criteria in independent trials. Only cultivars that meet those standards can use the A-LIST Approved designation.

For turf managers, A-LIST provides an independent way to identify cultivars proven to perform under reduced-input trial conditions.

A-LIST genetics in ProSelect®

ICL uses A-LIST-approved cultivars within the ProSelect seed portfolio where their characteristics support the intended turf performance.

Kentucky bluegrass

• Bluenote – selected for high turf quality, wear tolerance and recovery.
• Enigma – selected for strong turf performance under demanding conditions.
• Legend – contributes turf quality, wear tolerance and recovery.

These three cultivars form ProSelect 365 Super Sport, a 100% Kentucky bluegrass blend for sports turf, selected for turf quality, wear tolerance and recovery.

Creeping bentgrass

• MTV-1 Oakley – selected for strong Dollar Spot resistance, consistent seasonal density, fine leaf texture and rapid establishment.

Oakley is part of the ProSelect creeping bentgrass portfolio for closely mown golf turf, where density, turf quality and disease tolerance are important.

Perennial ryegrass

• Fastball 3GL – combines turf quality with good cold tolerance and Crown Rust tolerance.
• GrandSlam GLD – selected for strong turf quality, density and performance under lower-input conditions.
• Slugger 3GL – selected for strong Gray Leaf Spot tolerance and good spring green-up.
