Agromaster Trial with Rice

61

Increase in NUE
Agromaster increases NUE in rice by an impressive 61%, meaning greater yields, fewer applications, and less N required.

Increase in NUE

Key Conclusions

Including Agromaster in the rice fertilizer strategy produced an increase of up to 15% in yield for an identical N rate; the same yield when the N application rate was reduced by 20%; and an increase of up to 61% in NUE.

Objective

The objectives of the trial are:

  • to assess rice (Oryza sativa) Nitrogen Use Efficiency, and
  • to compare the effect on the final rice yield of using a single application of Agromaster (a controlled release nitrogen-based product), with a split applications of conventional urea. Both treatments were tested at 2 different N application rates.

Results

  • Higher yields with the same level of N
Using Agromaster, statistically significant differences were registered in respect of yield – extra 15% at N rate of 200 kg/ha and 10% at 160 kg/ha.
  • Similar yield with less N (-20%)
Furthermore, when using Agromaster, at reduced rate (-20% of N rate), there is no detrimental effect in respect of yield.
  • Higher Nitrogen Use Efficiency with only 1 application
Thanks to the controlled release of nitrogen, only 1 application of Agromaster provides higher nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) compared to 3 split applications of conventional urea, in both fertilization strategies at 200 and 160 units of N per ha, respectively – extra 60% for the same kg of N applied.

Agromaster increased nutrient use efficiency in rice by an impressive 61%.

Nitrogen Use Efficiency, calculated as Agronomy Efficiency = (Y–Y0)/F
Y = Yield of harvested portion of crop when the said nutrient is applied
Y0 = Yield of harvested portion of crop when the said nutrient is not applied
F = Application rate of said nutrient
