Increase in NUE

Key Conclusions

A single application of Agromaster®, compared to the grower’s practice consisting of 2 applications of CAN, yielded 25% more tubers larger than 55mm, and produced a 6.6% higher marketable yield (tubers larger 35mm). Agromaster®’s controlled release of nitrogen increased the nitrogen use efficiency, ultimately producing a positive return on investment (ROI) of an extra 146 €/ha.

Objective

To compare the efficiency of a single application of Agromaster®, a Controlled Release Fertilizer from ICL, when compared to the grower’s usual practice of 2 applications of conventional N fertilizer (as CAN).

Treatments

This trial evaluated 3 different fertilizer treatments for Ware Potatoes (var. Augusta). All 3 treatments received the same level of P, K, Ca, Mg and S. The control received no additional nitrogen, while the standard grower’s practice and Agromaster® treatments received nitrogen fertilizer as shown in the table below. The trial was set up using a randomized block design with 4 repetitions.

Results

The trial showed that Agromaster® increased the marketable yield of potatoes by 6.6%, with a 25% increase in the yield of larger potatoes, those over 55 mm, compared to the grower’s practice.

Graph showing 25% how a single application of Agromaster increased the yield of tubers larger than 55mm by 25% compared to a two-application grower's practice.

Total yield distribution by size (mt/ha) for potato grown with Agromaster®, compared to the control and the grower’s practice treatments.

Agromaster increases NUE of potato by 24% compared to the growers practice

Agromaster® increased nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) by 24%, thanks to the controlled release of nitrogen.
