How do soil pH and stratification affect NUE? Soil pH plays a critical role in maximizing nutrient use efficiency (NUE) in crop production, but variability across soil layers can create costly uptake challenges. Join ICL agronomists Dr. Jason Haegele and Christi Falen for a comprehensive webinar on managing soil pH to optimize nutrient use efficiency economically. This session will cover the fundamentals of soil pH, its variability across soil layers, and how precise, economical approaches to fertilization can improve nutrient uptake and unlock soil-P reserves.

What We’ll Cover

  • Understand the relationship between soil pH, nutrient availability, and plant growth, including the challenges of pH variability across soil layers and its impact on nutrient uptake.
  • Explore the role of inputs like acidifying fertilizers (Nova PeKacid and Agrolution pHLow) and specialty granulars (Polysulphate) in enhancing phosphorus availability and optimizing nutrient use.
  • Learn how to synchronize nutrient release with plant demand to maximize nutrient use efficiency (NUE) and minimize nutrient loss.
  • Address nutrient stratification, soil compaction, and surface accumulation through best practices, including fertilizer choices, cover crops, no-till, and biological inputs (BIOZ) to develop efficient and cost-effective fertilization strategies.

Meet the Experts:

  • Christi Falen, Western Agronomy Technical Services Manager, ICL
    • Christi Falen is ICL’s Western Agronomist. She brings over 25 years of experience including roles in university extension, plant nutrition, and crop protection. Christi earned a BS in Natural Resource Management from the University of Alaska, a MS in Soil Science from the University of Idaho and is a Certified Crop Advisor.
  • Dr. Jason Haegele, Marketing & Innovation Manager, ICL
    • Dr. Jason Haegele leads ICL’s agronomy efforts across North America, focusing on innovative crop nutrition strategies. Overseeing strategic development and supporting agronomists and technical sales
managers, he collaborates with universities and third-party contractors to demonstrate ICL products’ efficacy on various crops. With expertise in plant nutrition, adjuvants, crop protection, and biological products, Jason holds a Ph.D. in Crop Science, an M.S. in Crop Production and Physiology.
