Nova FLOW + Polysulphate on Cotton
38
Tifton, GA 2023
38
Key Conclusions
- Nova FLOW™ as a foliar K source, applied with Polysulphate®, increased yield by more than 38% compared to the non-foliar control (muriate of potash).
- Foliar K application increases cotton yields and should be included in cotton management strategies.
- Nova FLOW is an excellent foliar choice, performing similarly to the commonly used KNO3.
Objective
To assess the impact of using ICL Polysulphate® in combination with ICL foliar Nova FLOW™ (5-10-20, 11.7 S, 9 Mg, 0.5 B) versus the commonly used potassium magnesium sulfate (SOPM) with foliar potassium nitrate (KNO3), compared to a control of muriate of potash without any foliar application.

Crop

Product
Nova FLOW (5-10-20 +9Mg)
Assessments
Cotton Lint Yield (lb/A)
Treatments
Foliar application of potassium (K) using Nova FLOW was applied in combination with Polysulphate. Potassium nitrate (KNO3) was applied with potassium magnesium sulfate (SOPM) as a positive control. The study consisted of three treatments with four replications of each treatment. Foliar applications of KNO3 & Nova FLOW were applied at early bloom.
Soil Type: Tifton loamy sand
Timing & Rates:
- Foliar applications were applied at first bloom
- Untreated check, Muriate of potash (0-0-60) was applied at a rate of 200 lbs/A (120 lbs K2O/A)
- Positive control, potassium nitrate was foliar applied at early bloom at a rate of 5 lbs/A with potassium magnesium sulphate (SOPM) applied at a rate of 133 lbs/A (28 lbs K2O/A)
- Nova FLOW was foliar applied at early bloom at a rate of 3 lbs/A and Polysulphate at a rate of 200 lbs/A (28 lbs K2O/A)

Results
- The combination of foliar K sources with Polysulphate (+Nova FLOW), and SOPM (+KNO3) increased yield by more than 400 lbs/A over the non-foliar control with muriate of potash.
- Nova FLOW is an excellent foliar choice, performing similarly to the commonly used KNO3.
- Foliar K increases cotton yields and should be applied during the reproductive stages of cotton, particularly from first bloom to peak bloom. This is when the plant has a high demand for nutrients like potassium, magnesium, sulfur, and boron to support flower development and boll formation.
