What are the best Topdress options for plants from February onwards?
For plants you weren’t expecting to carry over from last season, the chances are the original nutrition programme may be running out of steam, and be in need of a nutrient top up, with the emphasis being on a high nitrogen ratio. Use Osmocote Topdress FT or OsmoTop depending on the longevity required. Alternatively, use Osmocote Bloom with a higher potassium ratio to green up whilst maintaining compact growth and flowering; Bloom works particularly well with perennials. Don’t forget plants bought in, particularly from abroad, as some European growers use less controlled release fertilisers, topping up with water-soluble products. Plants are therefore more likely to run out of nutrition in the spring, particularly if you are growing them on outside as seasonal rainfall can wash nutrients away.
What are the best Topdress options for plants from September onwards?
For stock going in to winter, whether it’s mild or cold, growers will still need to maintain a suitable level of feed for evergreen plants whether growing outdoors or under protection. As the emphasis changes from growth to hardening up plants, the change from high nitrogen to high potassium feeds, such as Osmocote Bloom, is very important.
