Warburtons Team Visits Boulby Mine
An introduction to the world’s only Polysulphate® mine
On January 28th, we had the pleasure of welcoming members of the Frontier Agriculture and Warburtons Bakers senior management teams, for an underground visit to Boulby Mine.
Their visit, facilitated by one of our distribution partners, Frontier Agriculture, aimed to highlight the productivity, efficiency, and low-carbon advantages of Polysulphate® as a sustainable crop nutrition solution for milling wheat. And how that could be further adopted by their growers.
The representatives from Warburtons’ included the Lead for strategic change, their Quality Director, the Head of Flour & Ingredient Quality, and the company’s Sustainability and cereals leads.
Our commercial team presented information on how Polysulphate® has been successfully integrated into Frontier’s milling wheat fertiliser plans as a key crop input. Highlighting multiple benefits for farmers, including increased yield, enhanced flour quality, while also reducing the carbon footprint.
Ed Downing, Frontiers Technical lead explained how more and more growers were turning to Polysulphate® as a source of nutrition and sales of the product and of PotashpluS® continued to grow year on year. By incorporating Polysulphate® into the supply chain, the environmental impact of wheat production, and therefore bread production can be reduced—contributing to a more sustainable future for our customers and end consumers.
The team thoroughly enjoyed their visit underground, gaining valuable insights into the operations at Boulby Mine and witnessing first-hand how Polysulphate® is extracted and processed.
This is a another example of ICL UK work at all levels of the agricultural food supply chain in order to promote the benefits of our products and our mine visits play a key role in this process.
