Tackling dry conditions with confidence

At Pike Fold Golf Club, Course Manager Phil Harman needed a wetting agent he could rely on to protect turf quality and reduce the demands of hand-watering during dry spells.

“Water management is very important on our site,” Phil explains. “Being built on USGA spec greens, they can be more susceptible to drying down quickly and possible dry patch development. To maintain quality turf, the correct wetting agent is very important.

If this is performing well, we can still groom, brush, and topdress our greens without worrying about additional stress to the turf.”

The application plan was simple and consistent: 10 litres in mid-March, followed by 5 litres every two weeks from early April. The benefits were quickly visible.

“I’ve noticed a much healthier plant during dry conditions,” says Phil. “Certainly less dry patch, and much less need for hand-watering due to the moisture consistency improving.”

Even during periods of very low rainfall, the greens remained in excellent condition. “TriSmart made a real improvement to our water management programme. The turf stayed strong and healthy throughout the dry spells.”

Over time, the impact became even more obvious. “We’re doing far less hand-watering now,” Phil adds. “Colleagues have noticed the difference too—both in how little hand-watering is needed and how much stronger the turf looks during periods of drought.”
