ICL support new GMA ‘35 Under 35’ initiative
The Grounds Management Association (GMA), supported by ICL, has launched 35 Under 35 – a new initiative to recognise the young professionals and volunteers making a real impact in the grounds management industry.
What is the GMA 35 Under 35 initiative?
Grounds management is an essential yet often overlooked profession – responsible for maintaining the safety, quality, and playability of the UK’s sports surfaces and green spaces. This new initiative will shine a light on 35 individuals under the age of 35 who are already driving standards, innovation, and positive change within the sector.
Why is ICL supporting it?
Free to enter and open to both self-nominations and peer nominations, GMA 35 Under 35 is backed by ICL – a global leader in turf and landscape solutions. Trusted by many of the UK and Ireland’s top sports venues, ICL brings cutting-edge innovation, technical expertise, and decades of experience to the industry, helping turf professionals raise standards, solve challenges, and push the profession forward.
Simon Barnaby, ICL’s National Key Account & Business Development Manager – Stadia, said:
“We’re proud to support a programme that recognises people early in their careers who are already delivering real value. As well as celebrating success, this is about confidence, development, and feeling part of something bigger. It’s a great step for the industry.”
What do selected individuals receive?
As well as gaining sector-wide recognition, those selected will access exclusive technical and agronomic training modules developed by the GMA and ICL’s technical team. They’ll also be invited to dedicated training and networking sessions at SALTEX – offering a valuable opportunity to build knowledge, share experiences, and grow their professional profile within the industry.
Selected by an expert judging panel, the final 35 will be profiled across the GMA’s digital channels and wider industry media – giving them a platform to showcase their achievements and helping to inspire the next generation of grounds professionals.
Geoff Webb, CEO of the Grounds Management Association, said:
“The future of grounds management relies on fresh thinking and new energy. The GMA 35 Under 35 is about recognising those who are already making a difference and inspiring others to follow. It’s a chance to champion the talent that’s shaping the future of our industry.”
Nominations open later in April and close at the end of July.
