Better Drainage of Substrate with H2Gro ED

12%

Maximum moisture level

H2Gro ED effectively prevents waterlogging in pots.

Viaverde Destelbergen, Belgium

12%

Maximum moisture level

Key Conclusions

  • The use of H2Gro ED consistently reduced the maximum moisture content across all kinds of substrates.
  • The decrease ranged from 3 % to 12 %, indicating better drainage and reduced waterlogging.

Objective

To evaluate the effect of H2Gro ED wetting agent on substrate drainage and maximum moisture content across different substrate types.

Assessments

maximum humidity level, decrease in humidity

Treatments

The trial was conducted at Viaverde Destelbergen, Belgium, in 2024 to assess the effect of the wetting agent H2Gro ED on substrate drainage and moisture retention.

Four substrate types (peat-, coir-, fibre- and compost based) were tested, each in two variants – untreated and treated with H2Gro ED. 2-litre pots were left in water for 24 hours and after that put on a grid to drain. The maximum volumetric moisture content (vol%) was measured for all samples, and the relative decrease compared to the untreated control was used to evaluate the improvement in drainage performance.

Results

For every substrate type, the maximum moisture level was lower in the pots treated with H2Gro ED compared to the untreated control. This reduction in peak moisture content demonstrates improved drainage behaviour, confirming that H2Gro ED helps substrates release excess water more efficiently.
