Objective: To determine the effect of spring fertiliser to optimise the quality of golf putting surfaces in the spring
Duration: April 2013 – June 2013
Location: STRI, Bingley, West Yorkshire
Field site: The turf was an established bent grass/ annual meadow grass sward growing on the indigenous sandy loam soil, pH 5.5.
Design: Factorial design within a randomised block design
- Independent research work from 2013 that started the ball rolling with the use of Greenmaster Pro-Lite ‘Cold Start’ in spring.
- Overall, the results showed that the ‘Cold Start’ 11-5-5 +8Fe fertiliser product performed very well in providing a quick green up to golf green turf growing under cool spring conditions.
- Over the longer term ‘Cold Start’ (and ‘Autumn’) products provided improved turf quality for up to nine weeks after treatment.
- The results have been backed up and substantiated in subsequent trials and with widespread user experiences.
