Sean McLean, the Course Manager at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, has been vocal in his commendation of Praxys, ICL’s systemic selective herbicide, for its critical role in the club’s weed management approach.

Illustrious venue

Royal Birkdale stands out as a prestigious golf course, famous for hosting more Championship and International events since World War II than any other course globally.

This illustrious list includes major tournaments like the Open Championships, Ryder Cups, Women’s British Opens, Senior Opens, Amateur Championships, Walker Cups, and Curtis Cups.

Formulation for efficient weed control

Since taking on his role in November 2022, Sean has been using Praxys to combat weeds effectively, noting considerable success with its use.

Praxys formulation of Florasulam, Fluroxypyr, and Clopyralid, makes it extremely efficient against a broad range of weeds found on golf courses, sports turfs, and lawns. It is specifically potent against weeds like daisies, dandelions, Self-heal, Ribwort Plantain, and Spear Thistle.

Economic and Environmental Benefits of Praxys

With a low starting application rate of one litre per hectare, which adjusts according to the weed spectrum to be treated, Praxys minimises packaging and waste.

Its single application requirement also positions it as an economically sound choice. Sean applies Praxys annually in May, considering it an indispensable part of their weed control strategy.

Outstanding Performance

He shared, “We primarily use Praxys on our tees and fairways, and its performance has been outstanding. Although it’s a challenge to completely eliminate tough weeds since new ones emerge each year, Praxys is vital in our comprehensive weed management strategy. Its minimal water usage and reduced environmental footprint make it an exceptional option for us.”

He also mentioned, “Post-Praxys application, we notice a prompt weed dieback within a few days, with sustained action against more persistent weeds like greater plantains in the weeks that follow.”
