Ghana is renowned for its cocoa production, being the second-largest exporter of cocoa beans in the world. Cocoa cultivation is a vital part of the country’s economy, contributing about 30% of its export earnings. The main cocoa-growing regions include Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Central Region, Eastern Region, Western Region, and Volta, where the climate is ideal for cocoa farming.

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) was established in 1947 with the mission to encourage and facilitate the production, processing, and marketing of premium quality cocoa, coffee, and shea nut. COCOBOD plays a crucial role in sustaining the cocoa industry in Ghana by ensuring fair treatment of farmers and maintaining high standards in cocoa production.

Polysulphate has shown significant benefits for cocoa crop. This multi-nutrient fertilizer contains four essential nutrients (sulfur, potassium, magnesium, and calcium) in one single natural crystal, offering a prolonged release that ensures steady nutrient availability. Additionally, Polysulphate has a very low carbon footprint and is certified for organic agriculture, making it an environmentally friendly choice for sustainable cocoa farming. Our trials in Ghana have demonstrated that Polysulphate can increase cocoa bean yields by an average of 13.6% compared to standard fertilizers and by 70.8% compared to unfertilized control plots. This makes Polysulphate a valuable fertilizer for cocoa farmers.

As we look ahead to next year, we are enthusiastic about the potential for continued collaboration. Together, we can further bolster the cocoa industry and ensure that high-quality chocolate remains accessible to all, thanks to these collective efforts.
