Key Conclusions

When comparing farmer’s practice with the addition of either SOP or Polysulphate, the application of Polysulphate resulted in increased plant height, leaf number per plant, single plant weight, and yield, increasing yield by 5.9%.

Objective

To evaluate the addition of Polysulphate and sulfate of potash (SOP) to the farmers’ practice on the yield and yield parameters of pak choi (Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis) crop grown in Henan Province, China.

Product

Granular Polysulphate

Assessments

Spread, number of leaves, height of plant, weight per plant, and yield

Treatments

The trial consisted of 3 treatments with 3 replications arranged in a random block design. The area of each plot was 30 m2. Sowing rate was 3 kg/ha, plant density in the field was 180,000 plants/ha.

  1. Farmers’ practice (FP): 600 kg/ha of 18-18-18 compound fertilizer as a base fertilizer
  2. Farmers’ practice (FP) + 750 kg/ha of SOP
  3. Farmers’ practice (FP) + 750 kg/ha of Polysulphate

Results

The application of Polysulphate (T1) improved the biological characters of pak choi compared to pak choi grown according to farmers’ practice (T3).

The treatment receiving Polysulphate had:

  • Increased number of leaves per plant by 0.7 leaf/plant
  • Increased plant height by 1.7 cm
  • Increased plant weight 12.9 g
