HandyPro

Hand-held rotary spreader

The HandyPro is a hand-held rotary spreader that can be used to apply fertiliser or grass seed - by turning the handle. The spreader is comfortable to hold and easy to use, it is suitable for small to medium lawns.

Determine the product and application rate.

Refer to the label of your granular fertiliser for the recommended application rate. For example, a common rate might be 30-50 grams per square metre.

Initial setting recommendations

As a general guideline:

  • Sportsmaster: Use setting 3 and apply in two directions to achieve approximately 35g/m2.
  • Gronamic Sport: Use setting 5 and apply in three directions to achieve approximately 35g/m2.

Conduct a field test with a tarpaulin

  1. Lay a tarpaulin or similar large sheet on a flat surface.
  2. Fill the spreader with the fertiliser.
  3. Select your starting setting (e.g., setting 3 for Sportsmaster).
  4. Walk at a consistent pace, spreading the product over the tarpaulin

Collect and weigh the fertiliser

  1. After spreading, carefully gather the fertiliser from a 1 square metre section of the tarpaulin.
  2. Weigh the collected fertiliser using a precise scale.

Adjust the setting if necessary

  1. Compare the weight of the fertiliser collected to the desired application rate.
  2. If the amount is too low, increase the setting. If it’s too high, decrease the setting.
  3. Repeat the spreading and weighing process until you achieve the desired application rate.

Ensure even coverage

  • To ensure even coverage and avoid over-application in certain areas, apply the fertiliser in multiple directions. For example, spread once north to south and once east to west.

Tips for accurate calibration

  • Consistent walking pace: Maintain a consistent walking pace while spreading to ensure uniform application.
  • Weather conditions: Perform the calibration on a calm day to avoid wind interference, which can affect the spread pattern.
  • Regular checks: Regularly check the calibration, especially if you switch products or notice changes in application consistency.

Calibrating your HandyPro is essential to ensure your grass areas receive the precise amount of nutrients required.

By following this step-by-step guide and adjusting the settings based on the size of the granules and the desired application rate, you can achieve accurate and efficient fertilisation.
