ICL Growing Solutions Amfert is a significant ICL facility producing Polysulphate Premium, ICL PKpluS, superphosphate, nitrogen, phosphate, and compound fertilizers. The high-quality fertilizers produced at Amfert contribute significantly to sustainable farming by enhancing soil fertility and crop yields.
ICL Growing Solutions Amfert has two sites, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany. The factories were established in the early 1900s and integrated into ICL around 1980.
The site in Amsterdam operates a production line with an impressive annual capacity of 550,000 tons and delivers over 80 fertilizer grades annually, comprising more than 200 batches. In addition, the production line at the Ludwigshafen factory has an annual capacity of 250,000 tons, producing 50 different grades.
Both sites benefit from strategic locations, ensuring excellent logistical connectivity via inland vessels, sea, and road transport for efficient distribution across Europe and beyond.
ICL Growing Solutions Amfert has consistently innovated to meet changing agricultural demands. The current production portfolio consists of an extensive list of fertilizers, including granulated P, PK, NPK compound fertilizers, ICL PKpluS, Polysulphate Premium, and Puraloop.
One of Amfert’s latest products is Polysulphate Premium, an exceptional uniform fertilizer consisting of uniform, robust spheres of Polysulphate, the world’s only natural four-in-one fertilizer. This high-quality fertilizer has a natural prolonged nutrient release, ensuring season-long nutrient availability that contributes to optimum plant performance.
Amfert’s latest pioneering innovation is its integration of phosphate recycling. The factory introduced a phosphate recycling unit in 2019, successfully incorporating Sewage Sludge Ash into its production processes. By replacing phosphate rock with renewable sources, Amfert in Amsterdam became the first site worldwide to close the phosphorus life cycle, marking a new era in sustainable fertilizer production.
ICL Growing Solutions Amfert is a leading producer of fertilizers, manufacturing a broad portfolio that includes granulated P, PK, NPK compound fertilizers, GSSP, GTSP, ICL PKpluS, Polysulphate Premium, and Puraloop. With an annual production capacity of 800,000 tons, the facility produces reliable, balanced fertilizers tailored to diverse soil and plant needs.
The factory integrates Sewage Sludge Ash into its Puraloop production processes, replacing traditional phosphate rock with renewable sources. This innovation supports environmental sustainability, utilizing a waste product to create a double-action phosphorus fertilizer, and positions ICL Growing Solutions Amfert as a global leader in phosphorus recycling.
Amfert’s manufacturing processes emphasize environmental responsibility. The advanced technologies at the factory minimize emissions and waste to produce efficient, balanced fertilizers for optimal agricultural productivity. Such efforts contribute to helping farmers improve yields while preserving environmental health for future generations.
In Germany, the Amfert factory’s production process generates no waste or wastewater, reusing the scrubbing water in the granulation process. Additionally, rainwater is collected and repurposed as scrubbing water, further reducing the need for fresh water. These practices demonstrate the commitment to efficient resource use and environmentally responsible operations.
The location of ICL’s Amfert factories on the bank of the Rhine and in the Port of Amsterdam provides direct access to sea routes, inland waterways, and an extensive road network. These strategic locations ensure the efficient transportation of fertilizers to customers across Europe and to international markets.
The robust storage facilities at the Amfert sites include bulk storage for 160,000 tons and six tanks with a combined capacity of over 16,000 cubic meters. This infrastructure enables consistent handling of production outputs and reliable supply chain management.
ICL Growing Solutions Amfert is actively expanding its use of renewable phosphorus sources. Along with increasing the use of sewage sludge ash, there are plans to utilize other sources of recycled nutrients, including incorporating Meat and Bone Meal Ashes (MBMA) into production, further advancing ICL’s commitment to sustainable fertilizer manufacturing.
