IFA Webinar: Global Assessment of Potassium Limitation to Crop Yields

Speakers

The International Fertilizer Association (IFA) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) are hosting a webinar titled “Global Assessment of Potassium Limitation to Crop Yields” on Tuesday, April 9, from 14:00 to 15:00 CET. This event will delve into the latest research on potassium limitation and its significant impact on global crop yields. Attendees will gain insights from leading experts in agronomy and soil science, including Patricio Grassini (UNL), Walter Carciochi (UNL), and Achim Dobermann (IFA). The session will cover three main areas: understanding the global challenge of potassium limitation, examining regional impacts on agricultural systems, and exploring sustainable solutions for improved potassium management.
This webinar is part of a broader initiative supported by ICL: the two-year project started in 2023 aims to create an extensive database of potassium levels in major crop systems worldwide, focusing on regions such as South and North America, South Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The project utilizes various methods to diagnose potassium deficiencies, including on-farm nutrient balances, soil and plant analyses, and potassium omission trials. The goal is to enhance crop production through better nutrient management and improved fertilizer recommendations, benefiting farmers, researchers, policymakers, and the agri-food sector.
Following the presentations, there will be a short Q&A session, providing an opportunity for attendees to engage with the speakers and deepen their understanding of this critical issue.
