Key Conclusions

Greater trunk thickness and tree height

Agroblen controlled release fertilizers significantly improved the establishment and growth of the trees during the 5 months following transplanting, achieving:

  • a more balanced plant growth, with a 19% increase in trunk thickness and a 13% increase in height.
  • greater uniformity in plant size.
  • better nutrition, resulting in more robust plants for winter and the start of spring.

Using the H2Flo wetting agent helped maintain plant turgor during high-temperature periods.

Objective

To evaluate the effect controlled-release fertilizers and wetting agents have on the establishment of transplanted avocado trees in field conditions.

Results

  • The tree’s growth was evaluated 5 months after transplanting by measuring the trees’ maximum height and trunk thickness 20 cm above the soil surface. All trees fertilized with Agroblen controlled release fertilizers showed greater uniformity in plant size. Trunk thickness and plant height responded significantly to the use of Agroblen.
  • The tallest trees (1.36 m) were those fertilized with Agroblen 17-9-8, followed by the trees that received Agroblen V-Factor 8-20-7 (1.34 m).
  • Agroblen fertilization resulted in the most balanced and uniform plant growth during the first 5 months following field transplanting.
  • Application of Agroblen 8-20-7 achieved the widest trunks at 2.51 cm, followed by the trees fertilized with Agroblen 17-9-8 (2.32 cm).
  • Applying H2Flo without Agroblen also had good results, achieving
an average tree height of 1.25 m.
