Introducing Greenwave, ICL’s’ first taxonomically true tetraploid Sheep Fescue (Festuca ovina)! Unique from most other Sheep Fescue cultivars selected from hard fescue color genotype selections, Greenwave contains a double set of chromosomes that allows seed to germinate rapidly, but grow extremely slow under little or no inputs. Greenwave has improved adaptability to heat and marginal soils while also exhibiting better persistence in drought. Use it in shade, natural areas, and mixed with other fine fescue species.

Sheeps Fescue, is a versatile species, grows very slowly and whilst it can tolerate lowered mowing heights, it thrives best under more relaxed mowing regimes to meet low maintenance requirements, for which Sheeps fescue is most suited to. Under minimal mowing, removing no more than 1/3 of the sward height at each cut. As a minimum, fertilise annually with 45-80kg of nitrogen per hectare in a balanced formulation.
For new turf, sow at 20 – 30 g/m2 (200 – 300 kg/ha). If seeding naturalized or ornamental areas, use 10 g/ m2 (100 kg/ha). Greenwave will germinate in around 7-12 days, and mowing can begin 2-4 weeks from blade emergence.
