During the continuing heat and dry conditions in parts of Europe this summer, a dedicated group of staff from the ICL office in Spain took it upon themselves to provide additional assistance to the young trees they planted the previous year.

During ICL’s 2022 ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) week, in a wonderful display of commitment to environmental sustainability, ICL volunteers in Iberia ventured to Sierra Espuña to rejuvenate the forest by planting trees. Not only did they plant the saplings, but they also diligently cared for them, ensuring they received the necessary early attention and support to give them the best start. Having seized the opportunity to actively contribute to the ICL’s broader sustainability goals by planting trees in Sierra Espuña, a picturesque natural area in Spain, they sought to restore the forest’s vitality and enhance the local ecosystem. Ongoing Care Amidst Summer Heat

But the summer months in Sierra Espuña so far in 2023 have brought scorching temperatures and limited rainfall, posing a significant challenge to the survival of the newly planted trees. Recognizing the vulnerability of their efforts, the ICL staff committed themselves to providing additional care throughout this dry season to ensure the trees receive the hydration they need.

Community Impact and Environmental Stewardship

The efforts of the ICL volunteers extend beyond the immediate benefit of Sierra Espuña’s forest. Their dedication to nurturing the young trees sets an inspiring example for others in the community, encouraging environmental stewardship and emphasizing the importance of taking responsibility for our natural surroundings. By demonstrating their commitment to sustainable practices, the ICL staff showcases their genuine concern for the well-being of the environment and future generations. By going the extra mile and providing ongoing care, ICL volunteers in Iberia ensure the saplings thrive despite the challenges presented by the summer heat, making a significant contribution to rejuvenating the forest and fostering a greener, more sustainable future.
