Derek Gulliford Obituary

2 mins

It is with great sadness that we announce our former colleague, Derek Gulliford, passed away on February 22 after a short illness.

Having joined Fargro as a junior trainee in 1962, he progressed to become overall Sales Manager.  In 1987 Derek joined Bord na Mona where he was instrumental in helping to shape the Shamrock brand.  When taken over by Levington, he was appointed Sales Manager for Shamrock and, when the company became  Scotts Professional, was appointed Key Account Manager for the South-East – a role he retained at Everris (which became ICL) until he retired in January 2014.

“Having dedicated over 50 years to horticulture, Derek was extremely knowledgeable and well respected within the company and the wider industry,” says ICL Sales Manager Adrian Thirtle-Watts.  “A highly valued member of our technical team for many years, he had many friends within the company and colleagues, past and present, attended the celebration of his life at Worthing Crematorium.”

Very much a family man, Derek is survived by his devoted wife Jenny, daughter Jayne and his four stepchildren. A doting grandfather, he was very closely involved in the life of his beloved grandson Wesley and his ten step grandchildren.  Derek lived in Worthing all his life. With a genuine love of plants, he was an accomplished gardener and had his own allotment. He was also a lifelong West Ham supporter.
