Test of Nova PekAcid with Banana in Clay Soil

63%

Increase in calcium (Ca) availability

Nova PekAcid® increased calcium availability and soil solution pH in banana cultivation in Tabasco, Mexico.

Teapa, Tabasco, Mexico

63%

Increase in calcium (Ca) availability

Key Conclusions

  • The application of Nova PekAcid increased the solubility and availability of Calcium in the soil; the witness obtained a concentration of 83 ppm of soluble Calcium in the soil solution; while with Nova PekAcid it increased to 130 ppm of soluble and available Calcium in the soil solution.
  • Nova PekAcid also had a notable effect on lowering the pH of the soil solution; with the control the pH value was 8.5 and with the application of Nova PekAcid it was 7.5.
  • These results prove the efficiency of Nova PekAcid in increasing the availability of nutrients in soil , in addition, its effect to improve pH, this in turn increases the availability of all nutrients in the soil solution.

Objective

  1. Evaluate the effect of Nova PekAcid in improving the availability of calcium in soil solution.
  2. Determine the effect of Nova PekAcid on the pH of the soil solution.

Treatments

  • Five soil subsamples were collected on the 1-ha plot and mixed homogeneously to obtain a sample.
  • The obtained sample was divided into two subsamples, each of which was treated as a treatment.
  • Nova PekAcid was applied to a subsample at a dose of 1 g/L of water.

Results

Two bar charts comparing Nova PeKacid treatment with a control in clay soil. The Nova PeKacid treatment reduces soil solution pH from 8.5 to 7.5 and increases potassium (22 vs. 18 ppm) and calcium (130 vs. 83 ppm), while nitrate is slightly lower (160 vs. 180 ppm). A table below summarizes the same values.
